This painting was inspired by the Dai-18 Kyotoku Maru, the fishing vessel swept ashore by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011. Standing before the vessel, the artist created this work as a tribute and a heartfelt prayer that such a tragedy will never happen again.
